The return back from April vacation was the kickoff for the Vine Street School Walking School Bus program. On a day that sported beautiful sunny skies and warmish weather, the Walking School Bus made its way from Silver Street down West Broadway to Pier Street, down Pier Street to Fifth Street and up Fifth Street to the Vine Street School. It was a great day for a walk and being escorted by fire fighters and a fire truck (with lights and sirens!) made the first walk super special!
The Vine Street School received a grant from the Bicycle Coalition of Maine and has partnered with community volunteers to offer the Walking School Bus program to our students. The Walking School Bus is a fun way for students to engage in physical activity as a start to their day–a healthy habit we hope will last a lifetime. Volunteers ensure student safety and give students the opportunity to learn and practice pedestrian safety with adult guidance and supervision.
If you would like your child to participate in the Walking School Bus or if you would like to be an adult volunteer contact Coordinator Deidre Johnson or Principal Lynn Silk at the School at 941-6300.
